Our heavenly Father, I come to You on behalf of my friends, near and far, that I care about but they’re going through a rough time emotionally. Sadly, some seem to have given up on life, sinking lower in the cesspit of doubting Your love, despairing of life and sinking into an ever deepening depression.
Lord I pray that You would meet them at this point of need and give the reassurance of Your love in their spirit and Your hope in their heart. I ask You Lord, to lift the curtain of doubt that has played such havoc with their assurance of salvation in You. Guide them to walk towards the joy they once knew in You.
Life has become such a struggle and the faith of Your children is seriously challenged - but Lord I know that Your Word says that You are there for us all the time and that You would never leave us to struggle alone. Turn their thoughts to You every single time this anxiety tries to descend upon them. Bring to mind those Scripture that tell the truth of Your love and grace. Help them to think about anything that is excellent and praiseworthy (Phil 4:8). Remind them to not be discouraged because Your Word says you’ve gone before them (Deut 31:8). Thank You for hearing the righteous as they cry out, delivering them from their troubles (Psalm 34:17).
Be with them Lord at those times when doubts of Your love for them rise up in their mind - and help each of them to reaffirm in their hearts all that You have done throughout their lives. When their faith is threatened by those negative thoughts that say that You could never love nor rescue them, I pray they remember that You loved them, individually, so much that You died to save them, clothing them in Your perfect righteousness. When assurance in their salvation and eternal security starts to waver, help them recall that You loved them so much that You sent Your only begotten Son to die and pay the price for all sins – for which I thank You Lord, and help us to reaffirm the truth in our hearts.
When any one of them finds themselves wandering far from You and little murmurings rise in their heart (that You can’t love them as much as other people because things are so difficult in their lives) prevent them from dwelling on such lies – for You alone are good and gracious and faithful and true. We banish and bind up all lies from the enemy and send them to the pits of hell where they belong.
Father God, when depression is set to invade their peace help them to claim the promise that Your grace is sufficient for and to trust You in all things! Be a shield around them and lift their heads high, for they are Your chosen ones.
Meet them, Lord, at this point of need, I earnestly pray, and restore to them the joy of Your salvation and peace that only comes from You. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen!
