Do churches have a cover charge??

Updated: Apr 4, 2018

Imagine robbing a bank and the consequences you would suffer. Many of us believe in God and the Word of God, yet we rob Him of our tithes and offering. Malachi gives specific instructions regarding this. I think it's only fair to give back what He gave to us. I know, many wonder who says tithe has to be a tenth. Did you know the very definition of tithe is a tenth? Others argue that tithing is of the Old Testament. Well let's go with 2 Corinthians 9:7 that says He loves a cheerful giver. No, there's no cover charge to attend church. That's a given. But it's what is His. Instead of thinking you have to give 10%, see it as you getting to keep 90%.

There's no real reason to complain when He does so much for us everyday.

Tithing is the only place in the Bible that His Word says "test me on this" (Malachi 3:10). Perhaps God is on to something. You simply can't out-give God. The more you give, the more you'll receive. Luke 6:38 has more to it than we realize. I do know that many are concerned with what churches do with the money we give. It's understandable. There are a multitude of churches out here taking advantage of parishioners. And it saddens me.

But the reality is that the results of your obedience are not dependent upon how the recipient handles the seed.

God provides for us in many ways. And when we do what we are instructed, the floodgates open and blessings pour out. Will you go to hell for not tithing? Absolutely not! Should churches mandate that you tithe consistently in order to attend? I do not believe they should. Churches do not have a cover charge, no. Thankfully, He paid it all. But I'd sure pay to get to Him...
